Hello All,

I live in Central Florida and breed Freshwater Shrimp. I just joined this Forum hoping to meet other Aquarium enthusiasts. We also have a 180 G Discus tank.

Hey great to meet you and welcome on board,

Do you have any successful tanks with both shrimp and discuss haha cause that would be a first.
What type of discus do you have, and which type of shrimp do you breed.
Would love to hear your response,
Adam

Hello Adam,

Actually, I have cherry shrimp in the discus tank.... I guess the shrimp that make it..... make it lol.
I have a 10g cherry shrimp tank. It is infested with snails right now. I put a new plant in and I guess some eggs were on the plant. What a mess. I'm looking to buy SSS grade CRS.
I would like to add them to the ones I have to get some new genes mixed in. The shrimp in the discus tank r breeding. I have to say, they have a lot of places to hide cause it is a amazon set up. They are red too. I'm surprised cause the temp. Is set to be 85 fahrenheit.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Tanja :-)

Ahh cherry shrimp!! I have wanted to keep shrimp for so long but im still so worried about how they will do lol, every guide i read says they are so tempermental and very easy to kill. I think cherry shrimp are easier? i can't wait to try, someday haha :D

Oh fantastic? you keep the two together that is very unusual but also very rewarding. Like you i have a discus tank and have always wanted to put in cherry shrimp but i fear for the worst :| but i guess i will have to test this. I have heard that if there is enough cover that they can breed fast enough (which is pretty darn fast haha) to keep the colony flourishing but have never heard anyone first hand!!

This is very nice to hear :), yes i have infact bread crs with great success, i find your best chance is to obtain one completely white shrimp which is not easy or cheap :D but then when bread with other high grades seemed to have the best results in the young. But make sure your patient as it is a long process but well worth the wait ;) . I trust you have read through my guide http://aquariuminfo.org/crs.html what current grade CRS do you have? im guessing you know what your doing 8-)

Adam,

Nice to meet you Jason too :)

Justin, you should try it. It is very easy. As long as you have places for them to hide and your water perimeters are good... They do the rest. Lol

Adam,
We just redid our discus tank. We are trying our luck in aquascaping and once we had the tank empty, we were surprised how many shrimp we had. We got most of them out but not all. After we put the new substrate and driftwood, plants and all we refilled it and started it up. After about 3 hours I saw about 5 cherry reds. In my opinion they are very hardy. But I have lots of hiding places and with the discus in the tank and 2 clown loaches you don't see them a lot. I still tink they are very benefitial to the tank and they seem to do fine.
Tanja.....:-)

Haha thats amazing, i always like to be surprised by the smallest of things, Yes i have heard they are very beneficial and i just love the way they colour up the tank. A goal of mine is to have a cherry shrimp aquascape by the end of this year haha, hopefully it is within bounds of the budget.
Thanks once again for joining the forum and don't be shy to link any pictures of your tanks or fish
Take care, Adam
